Resources & Additional Links
Community Mapping: A Guide to Understanding Place, Community and Continuity (2013)
Using a simple step by step procedure, the manual outlines the processes of Cultural Mapping -- the tools and techniques for collecting and assessing cultural assets and resources, providing a clear methodology to unravel the complex and significant elements which make up any human settlement. Includes a case study from a site within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town, Penang.
Community-based Art & Culture Education: A Resource Kit (2014)
A resource book intended for artists, educators and organisations interested in using creative approaches to work in, with or for local communities. It outlines methodology and case studies of how community-based programmes with young people can provide an alternative creative learning platform and help safeguard environmental, social or economic assets of the community.
Arts-ED produces a variety of educational resources. The production of these publications goes through a systematic process where we work with young children to conduct cultural research and then interpret the information in an appropriate form together with artistic professionals like graphic designers.
Arts-ED also compiles a collection of resources on cultural heritage information of George Town (Penang), creative arts education programs curriculums and community mapping and cultural mapping. These materials are kept in Arts-ED mini library. If you plan to visit Arts-ED library, please email arts_ed_penang@yahoo.com to schedule an appointment.
